Here is a very cool piebald Ethiopian epauletted fruit bat (Epomophorus labiatus) that we caught last month in Lilongwe, Malawi! 🦇

Piebaldism is a rare genetic condition caused by the absence of melonocytes in certain patches of skin and fur.

🦇 Bats might be struggling with the heat and wander out of their roosts to cool down. If you see a bat on the ground or an exposed area during the day please call our Out of Hours Helpline - 0345 1300 228.
Open on weekdays from 6-10pm and weekends/bank holidays from 10am-10pm.

Good example of a healing bat wing membrane. New white skin forming around the holes. Eventually they will close up completely but the skin will always be paler in those areas.
