I needed a distraction, so drafted a new label/logo for my Munich dunkle recipe. Yes, it includes a bad paleontological pun. Recipe and tasting notes at my blog: andybrews.com/2026/02/01/d...

- greater visibility, even if not always greater accountability, of the problems in the industry
- sale of major breweries (followed by eventual closure or return to independence after things didn't pan out)
- reduced connection between homebrewing & breweries
- the rise of craft lagers

Every other summer we run a fish biomechanics course at Friday Harbor Labs. It is an awesome opportunity to learn the tools of biovisualization while experiencing the rich fish diversity of the Salish Sea. Come join us!

The image shows a blue Smilodon (a kind of extinct big cat with long canine teeth) roaring to the viewer on a red and orange background. It is framed by the words "CHIN UP" and "FANGS OUT". The style is like a vintage screenprint though the artwork is digital.

The first page of the paper described in the post.

First paper of 2026 is out for #FossilFriday, and the first of probably several ornithischian papers over the next interval. Here my coauthors and I describe some tantalizing bits that suggest that ornithischian diversity in the Morrison Formation is higher than previously recognized.

I'm pretty excited to see this new location as it develops - I know the exact spot off the highway, and it's going to be way easier to access than their current spot. (although I have a major soft spot for that building, dating back to my first visit 30+ years ago).

I would guess more info is out there from the 2018 decision, but I didn't find it in a very very quick search. (I'm sure it must be)
