Just 3 weeks until #AWP25 in L.A. I know some writers feel it’s the wrong time for a conference given the multi-community devastation from the wildfires. I think a lot of attendees will be finding opportunities to help while there. And, writers need writers. We hold each other up.

Just finished reading White Noise, written 40 years ago by the Nostradamus-like Don DeLillo. It’s brilliance (the language! the metaphors!) has influenced my next pick off the ole TBR pile: @sonyahuber.bsky.social’s craft book Voice First. Happy Sunday!

Last year, my health insurance company stopped paying for my Humira. Humira is a type of immunosuppressive drug called a biologic, and I take a pretty high dose of it to control my severe Crohn's Disease. Without it, I will have a bowel obstruction, and then I will die.

CFS/ME has hindered my ability to read. One joy I’ve kept is reading flash non-fiction. It’s manageable for my brain and body, and oversized in what it gives my heart. Please tell me some of your favorite pieces.

Ever wonder why so many of us go to our doctors with multiple symptoms, and come away with a functional/somatic illness diagnosis (mental illnesses), or a prescription for depression and anxiety, without the doctor thoroughly ruling out a physical disease for our symptoms?

Here’s a 🧵why:

Hello, all! Happy to be here. I’m a writer with a day job and a chronic illness (CFS/ME), so currently thrilled when I manage to get a few hundred words down without falling out of my chair.
