Airport (1970): what am I watching? I was hoping this was gonna be like Airplane! it's actually a 2 hour drama.. And I'm so sucked in: will trans global airlines make it out of this airport before the angry homeowner next door manages to shut down it down on noise complaints AND there's a bomb!?

Nah, bro. I've done the 815 miles one tank, no stops, piss in bottles marathons before. Cause I was young once.

Sensible folks don't do that. Calling it as I see it. Your perspective is flawed & you're the one who can't envision an alterative. You're actively argue against the evidence. Peace.

What you're doing now is miserable, if true.

Most folks opt to fly if its over 500-miles one-way.

I also question your data. Its less distance to Memphis, always a 14 hour+ drive regardless of fuel source.

I've been logging that drive 25 years now. That's been a two day drive for yhr past 15 years. And folks still say I'm nuts to drive it.

Let's talk about op cost. Jacksonville is the same travel time Audi Q5 vs etron, but etron does it for less than half the cost of gas.

Driving the Q5 loaner to/from dealer-home during the annual service & inspection costs more than a full charge of my etron at home.

Etron isn't efficient, either.

Nothing I own has a better than 270mi range.

*NO* stop with 3-5 people is 10m no matter how badly you want to make yourself believe it.

I've done some of my longest drives (Pikes Peak/CO) in a 204-mile range Audi EV and rivaled a hybrid fords time end-to-end.

Memphis (750mi) is ~14h gas or EV.

The market isn't soft. The market rejects the Nazi status symbol and nobody shy Hyundai group has taken EVs serious in the US. Let the Chinese in and see how fast things flip. The issue has been supply, not demand. The right kind of cars aren't available.

On a universal level nobody goes more than 2.5 hours / 185 miles before stopping. I struggle to name an EV that can't achieve that today.

I've also got over 385,000 EV miles. I've driven 3/4 across the US in my Audi. These are debunked excuses and myths.

How on earth do you come to that?

Even if my house was incapable of charging, I can fully charge in less time than it takes to shop at my grocery store once a week.

I have yet to have any EV (not even thr Audi) need near the $ in upkeep than any diesel or gas VW did.

Americans bought 852,155 Kias in 2025, up 55,667 units from 2024.

Yes, they're exceptionally common cars over here. I say that as a proud owner.

When its not handling iced over roads as well or better than my Audi, its powering the first level of my home with its V2L adapter during power outages.

I've owned both kinds of EREVs and outside 10k applications, it adds expense and complexity without reward. Not a fan because I've been there and have the t-shirts.

The Lucid Air Grand Touring, which can travel up to 830 kilometers (about 516 miles) on a single charge. So thats not even an accurate portrayal. Nobody really needs more than 300mi on tap. I say that as someone whose done 4000mi on a 120mi rated EV *4 years ago* with less charging infrastructure...

I know a lot of folks who don't have home charging and charge at their grocery store when they shop once a week. There's options, they may not be available to all just yet.

But there are options in places you already, routinely, spend more than a half hour at which is ample for charging.

My typical go home to see the parents is 2200 miles round trip. 1450 just to and from. What I save in fuel is worth the extra hour (at best) it adds to the trip.

Camping is 1050mi round trip (GA and back). We plug into a 120v at the check in and cars is fully charged 2 days later when we leave.

Vrtually every Pilot & FlyingJ have ultrafast GM Energy chargers.

We ate at a mini Golden Corral at the FlyingJ off 95 coming back from DC two weeks ago.

I had to move the car because it finished before everyone had finished their food (it always happens that way, no stop is "10min" with 3+ ppl)

Most of the families I know have 1 car per working parent & 1 in warranty larger family hauler for when everyone goes out. The dailies get passed to kids & parents upgrade when time comes. I know few folks with just 1 car.

Perhaps b/c I live in the south, I've owned 2 cars since licensed (+26yrs).

Don't be a smart arse. You're there for days. You can devote the time. Better charge within 20mi of the park and *not worry about it.*

ABRP A Better Routeplanner is the world's most popular consumer EV routeplanner - both for beginner and experienced EV drivers. And of course for anyone curious about EVs.

1. Solar panels. Done this with my Energica motorcycle.

2. abetterrouteplanner.com

In reality you plan once and then keep going to the same places, same as we did with the diesels.

And average charge time on any decent EV is 15m for 150mi.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

As someone with over 400,000 EV miles, across 28 states, 3/4 across the US, climbed Pikes Peak, and towed from Key West to Central NC with pure BEVs since 2016...please tell me where charging is insufficient today.

The longest stretch of i70 w/o charging is 93mi and lowest range EV is 140mi...

It still has all the upkeep of ICE and a more complex overall architecture. As a former Volt and i3 owner, there is no benefit today. So I've experienced both kinds of "EREVs" and I only want BEV going forward.

Ooh, I know first hand. Even passive air cooling like first gen Energica Motorcycles and VW eGolf made a HUGE difference in capability and longevity.

Technically the Mitsubishi i-MIEV was the first modern global commercial EV. Went one sale in 2008 or 2009 in Japan and in US for 2012 model year. Only legal Kei car ever sold in the states. Forced AC cooling of battery while DC charging, too.

The oldest electric cars were Thomas Parker (England, 1884) and Morrison Electric Vehicle Company (USA, 1890). VW sold an electric Type 2 for a time. Everyone's dabbled with this beyond prototype stage for a century. Why GM gets credit has always intrigued me.
