Steve Reed told Parliament his dep't provided the figure of Β£100bn to buy back water.
The DEFRA Under-Secretary and civil servants are on record saying the figure came from a report funded by water companies.
So...who's telling the truth? Time to #ComeCleanSteve

Government's worst case scenario for nationalising water still leaves households better off | We Own It If the government took water into public ownership, it could save customers Β£3 billion a year. But the government tells us they can't afford nationalisation

Rachel Reeves is right that the world has changed - so why won’t she change her strategy to reflect it? Rigid adherence to arbitrary fiscal rules & refusing wealth taxes is a political choice that’s causing huge pain & harm, as well as laying out the welcome mat for the populists at Reform UK

It's extraordinary the lengths the UK state went to in order to spy on protest movements, and the callous way that these women - and many others - were treated as disposable, in order to gather intelligence on eco-campaigners, anti-fascist activists, trade unionists and family justice groups.

Today the largest review of the water industry since privatisation will launch its call for evidence

But the government has taken the option of PUBLIC OWNERSHIP off the table ⁉️

Absolutely irrational not to *consider* how 90% of the world delivers water

Coal power vs people power: Why the climate victories of the past may win us a better future Danny Chivers celebrates the end of UK coal, and explores what can be learned for the future.

Thanks for the reminder from @newint.bsky.social of how activism made a difference in a situation that easily could have gone the other way (continued or even growing coal power stations).

At a time that seems increasingly hopeless we need to focus our 'people power'

UK electricity is now coal-free. This wouldn't have happened without huge amounts of activism, especially the movement that stopped new coal power stations in 2008/09.
