Per the latest Infernals dev diary, Mycons have hope yet.
This portrait, the best fit for the Mycon, can adopt the Volcanic Nesting civic, allowing their homeworld to be a volcanic world as proper even while not being of the Infernal species type.
Now let's see if they can do Hyperthermia...

This lizard waved at my general direction. I wanted to think he waved at me — but he may have been waving at his reflection instead.
Incidentally, he later laid a large droplet of lizard urine that immediately absorbed into the concrete before taking off.
I had an acquaintance ask me how I was able to find all the insect fauna I was photographing years ago. You just have to keep an open eye with a curiosity for the natural world up close around you, and you’ll find all sorts of interesting little critters. 😉

Uranus completes its revolution around the Sun every 84 years. So too has this massive asshole.
Rest in depleted uranium, you vile sack of scum. Your legacy of a million dead Iraqis, horrible birth defects in Fallujah, and the ultimate creation of ISIS will never be forgotten.
Oh shit, it's happening. 🤦♂️
It was only a matter of time. This bubble can't pop soon enough!!! 🤬
Fanart of the Mycon from the Star Control franchise by Leonardo Silva Carvalho, via ArtStation: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/3qJqBJ Its purple form faces the viewer directly, with a many-gilled, concave cap, with a steaming glow in the cap's pit. Below the cap on the thick, segmented stem are three pairs of what appear to be hyphae tipped with glowing, circular tufts. At the bottom are what appear to be numerous anchoring or walking hyphae. The Mycon stands in an infernal setting with a volcanic background.
Suffice to say, my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.
It would have been fun to have the Mycon finally and decisively spread Juffo-Wup and Void the Non with the Hyperthermia crisis path, what they could only dream of in-universe. Ah well...
"Fungoid 15" species portrait from Stellaris: a fungus-like organism with what appear to be more than a dozen walking hyphae below a spade-shaped base, a bundle of hyphae for its body and four grabbing hyphae at the base of a cap resembling a flat helmet frayed towards the back.
The very first thing I did when I started playing Stellaris was recreating the Mycon from Star Control. With the Infernals DLC: "Finally! The Mycon will get the lore-accurate treatment they deserve!"
But not only can this portrait not get infernal traits, they did not make a fungoid infernal...

You know, I've thought about what term would be a suitable extraterrestrial analog for "anthropology", since 𝘢́𝘯𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰̄𝘱𝘰𝘴 strictly means "human being"...
I've thought "xenthropology" as one candidate. Then I looked up words and saw "xeno-", "exo-" and "astroanthropology"...
Around that time, I remember him running for President on the Republican ticket, getting pissed at John Stewart for making fun of Herman Cain before he dropped out, and getting banned from being discussed on The Young Turks show because he antisemitically attacked John Stewart.

Here is a link to UC Irvine's Anteater Art Gallery, which dates back to at least 1995 featuring the business anteater and much more.

A brown anteater wearing black business attire carrying a suitcase, and he is barefoot. From UC Irvine's Anteater Art Gallery.
An attempt to recreate what I remember seeing at the "Blue Anteater" website I encountered sometime in 2006, shortly after creating the "Giant Blue Anteater" handle on Wikipedia to see if a similar concept existed out there. I simply swapped the UC Irvine's business anteater's color from brown to blue as that was all the image essentially was.
After I created the username "Giant Blue Anteater" on Wikipedia in 2006, I searched to see if anybody came up with a similar concept; I found a website called "Blue Anteater" featuring a blue anteater in business attire.
I would learn today that it was a recoloring of one of UC Irvine's anteaters.

From left to right: Peedy, a green parrot; Merlin, a white-bearded, light-skinned wizard with a blue robe with yellow stars and crescent moons; Genie, a blue genie with a white turban and a red vest; Robby, a humanoid robot of gray steel; and Bonzi, a purple gorilla.
I've spent the past two days and nights revisiting these guys on my Windows 10 computer, after about 15 years...
