We're going to look back on this period of Labour government in the same way we view Thatcher's Tory period of Section 28 bigotry.
Starmer and his cabinet absolutely own the current trans-hostile nature of the now-ironically named Equality and Human Rights Council.

The Tasselled Wobbegong is a master of disguise that can eat a fish almost as big as itself in one gulp. It's classified as a shark, but when it lays on the sea floor it looks like a harmless rug if you manage to see it. But with powerful jaws and sharp teeth they are no fish to mess with.

Additional images (all in ventral view) of the holotype skull of Nanotyrannus lancensis (CMNH 7541). The top right image is from the original 1946 article by Charles Gilmore showing the full ceratobranchial hyoid bone in place. The bottom photograph (that I snapped in 2005 when I had the skull on loan for study & CT scanning) shows the caudal half of the hyoid bone preserved in place. The top left image is similar to the bottom image but is grayscale except for the hyoid bone.

One Tech Tip: Want to turn off Meta AI? You can't โ€” but there are some workarounds If you use Facebook, WhatsApp or Instagram. you probably noticed a new character pop up โ€” answering search queries, entering your group chats and eagerly offering tidbits of information in your feeds.

I'm old enough to remember when tech reporting helped you learn how to use new features as they came out.

Now it helps you AVOID new features the tech companies are trying to force upon you.

This is a quote from the article summing up both studies in Technology Review: "A multi-university team of researchers has found that chatting with a politically biased AI model was more effective than political advertisements at nudging both Democrats and Republicans to support presidential candidates of the opposing party. The chatbots swayed opinions by citing facts and evidence, but they were not always accurateโ€”in fact, the researchers found, the most persuasive models said the most untrue things."

Two independent studies found that AI chatbots were better at persuading voters than political ads. The most persuasive bots also lied the most. This is something that humans working in psyops have known for decades. AI is psyops at scale. www.technologyreview.com/2025/12/04/1...

Peruโ€™s Rรญo Abiseo park yields new marsupial, hinting at more undiscovered species In 2018, Brazilian biologist Silvia Pavan traveled to Rรญo Abiseo National Park, in Peruโ€™s San Martรญn region, following the trail of a squirrel species first described from there in the 1990s. At theโ€ฆ

On an expedition to a remote Peruvian reserve to search for a squirrel last seen 30 years ago, researcher Silvia Pavanโ€™s team instead discovered a new mouse opossum species, Marmosa chachapoya.

With reddish-brown fur and a narrow face, it highlights how understudied the eastern Andes remain.

I had just entered this trail in the forest at San Gerardo de Dota a few days ago, very early in the morning, and found a small covey of Spotted Wood-quail. These delightful (and extremely loud) birds live in the dark cloud forests at high elevations.

Infographic explanation
The same image across the top is a crop of the maxilla and nasal of Tyrannosaurus rex (AMNH 5027), the first being a crop from Osborn 1912 (plate, digitally made available by the AMNH). It's separated into A, B, C, with the latter two faded and overlain with tracings and sketches, describing fine vascular features (in B) and large "pits" (in C).

Below it, is the inset text:
"Tyrannosaurus rex AMNH 5027 (maxilla). Osteological correlates to a dense, keratinized facial dermis inferred from low and high-relief structures (large "pits") and extensive vascular grooves surrounding antorbital fossa."

Image sup-parts D includes a key for E-H, describing layers of bone and integument (dermis, scales, cornified structures), described various hues of red, orange, and yellow.

From bottom up, bone in black, deep dermis in orange (where Sharpey's fibres are most common), yellow in the middle for the meso and epidermis, red for the cornified epidermis, and dark red for scales, which sometimes have bony cores in crocodilians and lizards.

Bottom right are E-H, showing various thicknesses and bone "texture" related to relief of structures.

E: glabular, labile, or squamous skin. This is shown with a thick dermis and vague correlation between bone and scale placement.

F: ridged and corrugated bone is related to a thicker, sometimes cornified (keratinized) epidermis.

G: canaliculate or grooves bone texture is associated with more extensive cornified dermis, related to increased vascularization and reduced meso and deep dermis depth.

H: high-relief corrugated with secondary grooves, depicted strongly ridged bone with grooves incised into them, an exagerration of G.

The maxilla of various Tyrannosaurus specimens (perhaps or not "rex") have several peculiar, and possibly diagnostic, surface features relating to their integument (skin, horn, whatnot).

We begin with, and perhaps best with, AMNH 5027, the "archetypal" T. rex skull.
