Can having surgery affect progression of chronic kidney disease?
Our new retrospective analysis of 58,175 non-cardiac surgeries, found that having surgery was associated with improved kidney function in patients with CKD - but only if there was no AKI.

VVZ-149 is a novel, non-opioid, non-NSAID analgesic drug: It inhibits type 2 glycine transporter and type 2A serotonin receptor.
In this phase 3 trial, VVZ-149 showed a significant reduction of pain and opioid use within the first 12h after surgery.

Adequate TOF monitoring is still not ubiquitous. This large interrupted time series & quality improvement project shows successful large-scale integration of quantitative TOF monitoring and evidence based NMB management.

Is this primarily common in English speaking countries? In Switzerland, patients would never address their physician with first names - always Dr. Last Name. When mistaken for a different role - e.g. with racial or gender bias - then Mr./Mrs. Last Name, but never a first name.

Did you know that ferric carboxymaltose can cause hypophosphatemia?
In the DeFicit trial we evaluated if this could be mitigated by oral phosphate supplementation.

11.12.2024 15:56 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Could Aspirin also be promising for MINS?
POISE-2 would say no, but what about in a cohort of patients with confirmed MINS?
I mean you need to have enough personell, but then its really efficient. Also in a teaching hospital, you can still take your time to teach while maintaining good turn over rates. Glad to have you on team anesthetic room!
11.12.2024 07:27 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Multiple, at least for the induction rooms I know: Less people & less noise = less distractions for patient and me. Layout foremost designed for anesthesia induction, not surgery with anesthesia also being there. Overlapping patients, so more efficient.
What would the downsides be?
Having worked in systems without (U.S.) and with (Switzerland) anesthetic or induction rooms, I really prefer using one.
