I create. We all do of course, but it is who I am. Poetry, art, songwriting, humor, whatever it takes. And I work at mentoring and encouraging others to create as well. That is my other half. Retired from the school system but not from life.

occasionally, I stumble.
It's fine
as long as I stick the landing,
but occasionally as I look around
I wonder if I haven't stumbled
into a parallel universe
where things seem the same
at first
but slowly reveal differences
I did not suspect.
It's the only explanation

Some folks are clever and witty,
While some are disarmingly pretty.
But to truly be elegant
One must also be eloquent
And if you are not, more's the pity.

A scientist brilliant but poor
Said "I'll clone myself once
But no more."
Then each clone that he cloned
Cloned a clone of its own.
Now he can't even get to his door.

We navigate through crowds
Of strangers
Quickly calculating
The speed and trajectory
Of a thousand lives
So we can set a course
Through
Ducking dodging
Micro corrections to the path
Invisible
Because we don't belong
In their narrative

The moon called
To me last night.
"Let's walk together,
Like we used to-
Before you fell in love,
Got married
Raised a family,
grew old and sedentary.
When you were lonely
 I comforted you-
When you were lost
 I guided you-
Come."
So we walked
As if we'd never been apart

The moon called To me last night. "Let's walk together, Like we used to- Before you fell in love, Got married Raised a family, grew old and sedentary. When you were lonely I comforted you- When you were lost I guided you- Come." So we walked As if we'd never been apart

Before you fell in love,
Got married
Raised a family,

Everything and Nothing
Met at the horizon
During happy hour.
"Don't I know you?" Everything asked.
"You used to be me," Nothing said.
"Unlikely," Everything replied
And looked away.

Another breath-
The world moves on
Silly, miraculous, cruel.
We have each other,
In this moment
The rest is noise.

Someone left a barrel of laughs
At my front door.
I was suspicious, of course,
Not knowing who sent them
Or where they were from.
So instead of opening it
I crouched down and put my ear next to it,
Listening - to guage what sort of hilarity might be contained within.
Guffaws might indicate cruelty.
A self satisfied chuckle might be ironic.
A mwah haha would surely indicate - well, I think that's pretty obvious.
Were they the laughs of a person
With nothing left to loose?
Or the laughs of a person
Who knows knows he can only win?
Were they the happy byproduct of joyous celebration?
Or the giggles of a child who feels anxious and embarrassed?
A few of each, perhaps,
All jumbled up together.

I looked up to see my neighbor
Standing next to me.
Seems it had been delivered to the wrong address.
He rolled the barrel over to his house
where his family didn't waste a second before letting them all out.
It was total laugh-fest over there.

too bad. I could have used a good laugh.

Tripping over memories
That hide in the shadows
Invisible strangers
Taunting me with snippets
Of a past
I lost
Like a snake shedding its skin
Then moving blithely on
Through the grass

I am Schrodeger's cat
A child's refelction in the night blackened window of a bus
from Maryland to New York state and all points north...

Stopping for Boston Cream Pie and Superman comics
Superman is fighting Bizarro
His imperfect doppelgΓ€nger
Who does everything wrong, backwards

Pretend no one is watching
As you walk into the light
And begin again the battle
As you try to get it right-
While your stomach clenches tightly
And your brow begins to sweat
Till you recall the lessons lately learned
And remember to forget.

This moment
So similar to the last
Is its own moment
Limited but infinite
Allowing me to exist
As a guest
Or prisoner
Totally my own choice

A fragment of the orphaned moon
Holding tight against the storm
Wrapped up in the sleepless dark
Trying to stay warm.

You and I - fraternal twins,
Braced against a formless past,
Wrapped up in our dreams and lost
In the hours sliding past.

for fibbing and lies and mendacity
makes up what he lacks
In candor and facts
With an oversized load of audacity.

The landmarks of our journey
Across life's hills and valleys
Grow faint in the miasma of age -
Ghostly after images
That linger even after we have lost their names.

Thought I could hide from time passing
Hunkered down inside my artistic endeavors
Wearing the mask of a child
But grains of sand
Keep seeping through
Whispering "Tag, you're it"

God I miss seeing Jesse in performance. Just him and a guitar. Silence from the audience. Such a great story teller. Thanks for reminding me.

Everything I know about writing I learned from Dr. Frankenstein
Split the words open.
Cut them in pieces.
Let the guts spill
and the blood spurt out.
Get it on your hands
And face;
Get that wild glint in your eyes –
The one that makes people nervous;
Bellow to the heavens as you stitch old ideas back together,
Laughing hysterically
β€œIt’s alive!”

Bit by bit, your past
will try to distract you from the present,
so it can steal your future.

This is how we become ghosts
in our own lives.

A map of the soul
#poetry, #poem,

With every breath
Every touch
Every thoughtfeelingdream
Joysorrow pain and healing
The map of our soul multiplies -
An infinite fractal reflection
Of the universal design

And we move further away
From simple answers.
