You may know me as Lake Powell. But I am really Glen Canyon underneath, destroyed by man. One of the #BlueskyBodiesOfWater

Thinking about what Edward Abbey would have done if the National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, and Forest Service and its employees had been treated like this while he was a seasonal ranger.

Seldom Seen and the Monkey Wrench Gang probably would have taken action.

Utah may issue emergency as drought worsens, Lake Powell drops The outlook is particularly bad for the country’s second-largest reservoir, Lake Powell, which is federally controlled by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation.

I’m still here, although who knows for how long?

When Glen Canyon was finally destroyed, when I was created by the closing of the Glen Canyon Dam’s gates in 1963, the water delivered to Mexico became scarcer and more saline. Mexico complained, and the USofA said that they had never promised that the water would be 𝘶𝘴𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦.

How the New Administration’s Actions Will Affect National Parks Will there be a shortage of national park rangers for the 2025 visitation season? NPCA shares how the new administration’s actions will affect national parks.

“Visitors from around the world come to our national parks expecting a once-in-a-lifetime experience but instead could be met with overflowing trash, uncleaned bathrooms and fewer rangers to provide guidance. These are not the memories we want people to take away from their experience at our parks.”

The Antiquities Act, signed into law by Theodore Roosevelt in 1906, is under threat from the incoming administration, as well as the very real potential for downsizing, removing, and selling off protected public lands through spurious reviews, which they did first time around.

The Rocky Mountains have gotten near-average snow this year. So, why are forecasts for Lake Powell inflows so low? Winter snowpack in the Upper Colorado River Basin states — Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming — determines how much water will flow into Lake Powell this spring.

Perhaps more of me will re-emerge in 2025!

Lake Powell is under 40% full.

There is just one year to go before the new water management scheme for the Colorado River is decided.

Things do not look promising.

The Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and Lake Powell are in an area of the Southwest that is definitely as risk of being turned into wasteland under the incoming administration.
