Led by Ian McNabb, the Liverpool trio had already built a reputation for crafting big, emotionally charged alt-rock, and "The Kiss Off" fit right in.

This week’s single is "Victoria", The Fall’s 1988 cover of the Kinks track, originally written by Ray Davies and released in 1969. It came out on Beggars Banquet as a 7" and 12", with "Tuff Life Boogie" on the B-side.

On the 29th of May 1979, Gary Numan recorded a landmark session for John Peel’s BBC Radio 1 show, broadcast on 25 June. The recording features songs “Films”, "Airlane", "Conversation" and “Cars”.

This charged 1985 7” from American punk legends the Ramones marked a rare political turn for the band. Bonzo Goes to Bitburg came out in 1985 on Beggars Banquet in the UK, and it hits a lot harder than their usual punk fare.

We are seeing the news that Honest John Plain has passed away after a long illness. We are sending our love and thoughts to his family and friends. In 1980, John got together with Pete Stride from The Lurkers, resulting in the album New Guitar in Town, released by Beggars Banquet. May he rest well.

Spinning a 7” from a true icon today — Divine. Released in 1981 on Beggars Banquet’s sub-label Situation Two, this single, Born to Be Cheap, is a glam, gritty and camp track that kick started Divines music career.

This 1981 7" from British ska band Dangerous Bananas caught our eye. Released on Beggars Banquet, it features Cloud Nine on the A-side and Life at the Woodman Dub on the B-side.
Both tracks were produced by John Rocca, who was behind a number of early '80s Beggars releases.
