Would Liber floriger cartarum Pharphensis coenobii (index to the cartularies of the abbey of Farfa) fit the bill? Not very explicit on the metaphor, but the prologue tacitly acknowledges it by stressing its nature as a compilation of the "most useful pieces of information" in the abbey's archive.

The actual doctoral swords awarded at conferment ceremonies of Finnish universities are not this fancy as they are all standard issue (originally designed for festive uniform of civil servants of the Kingdom of Finland that never came to be), decorated with university crest (🔗 only in Finnish ☹️).

OMG PEOPLE! I have the BL hack of all BL hacks. Why didn't this occur to me before? It turns out the Wayback Machine has snapshots of MS metadata from the old Digitised Manuscripts site. I tried it for the Benedictional of St. Æthelwold, in honor of his day, and lo! web.archive.org/web/20140305...

Yeah, identifying saints can be tricky!
