I knew it had to be Toronto before I googled it. The architecture is unmistakable.

A modern Circassian saddle, seen from behind. The tree holds the seat high over the horseโ€™s back. There is a very heavily-stuffed four-lobed leather seat cushion attached at either end to the saddlebows.

I wonder if thirteenth-century Circassian saddles looked like present-day ones? In that case, it could be some word for high, or cushioned. Whatโ€™s the text? Iโ€™d like to read something that mentions Circassians that early.

Looks like the local Coast Guard station have a Facebook page and a phone number where we can share our thoughts with them.

Under this Facebook post, a commenter (not pictured) asks obliquely why certain boats on the lake have their AIS turned off. The comment is around the same time that the CGC Hawser is alleged to have been in Canadian waters.

In a cafe this evening, I made a palm-signing gesture to ask for the bill, and realized belatedly that no one in these parts has had to sign a restaurant receipt in โ€ฆdecades? The undergraduate waitress may never have seen the action that the gesture signifies.

What has happened with Google searchโ€™s indexing? It used to be that you could search, in โ€œโ€, a random Latin or old language phrase and if the text was digitized, it would come up.

This is not true anymore. I search for phrases in texts I KNOW are online and I get โ€œno matches for your search termsโ€

I have read that pie crusts were the Tupperware of premodern times, so the pastry may indeed have been meant as a container, to be given to the dogs after use.

โ€œToronto is full. Cap its population.โ€

Fact check - most Toronto neighbourhoods have declining population since 1970.

My neighbourhood I grew up in declined -35.7%.

So this phrase โ€œable-bodiedโ€ has clearly been on the most recent list of R talking points. It comes from the first round of English labor laws, which were instituted after the Black Death.

A mini medieval story time!

Iโ€™ve also heard some people refer to โ€œNumber 9 Highwayโ€. It seems to be a rural Central Ontario thing. You have to say it with Canadian raising: โ€œNumber Nein Heighwyyโ€.
