This is not to say that I don't like Min-gi's song, I like it. But it's fun to see another example of creativity in independent hip-hop being utilized by mainstream idol pop. Clearly Min-gi enjoys 제이통 as much as I do.

Interestingly the song samples #JTong's "Woof." this is the MV, www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtFq... but the first version of the song is from a show, you can hear the sample at 0:17 here www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLCW...

08.10.2025 06:42 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0It's a bit ironic, considering that most K-pop groups that are successful are totally products of corporations, but somehow #CORTIS hits me in that "corporate sellout" vibe so hard, I can't stand it. I have rarely or even never had such a poor impression of a new group.

Police statistics show that violent incidents, particularly those occurring within families or intimate relationships, tend to rise during traditional holidays when relatives gather for extended periods.

The BEST someone can be without the language is just able to analyze secondary sources in a language they know.
If you don't speak Arabic, maybe you shouldn't call yourself a scholar of the Middle East. And if you don't speak Korean, maybe you shouldn't call yourself an expert on North Korea.
And if you are reading on these topics & you notice someone can't use the language, doesn't cite local scholarship,

Just consider the words like words we don't pluralize in English-- sheep, deer, species and so on. Treat Korean like that.

I am saying this as one of only two Korean speaking faculty in my department. But since there are no requirements for professors to learn the language (as exist in other academic contexts abroad) why should they?
04.10.2025 10:13 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0You're busy, you're teaching and doing research. If you don't know Korean, the department secretary will try to help in this way and that (for the smooth running of the department). So you actually get to avoid extra work by not learning Korean.
04.10.2025 10:13 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0But at the higher level, in professional jobs, you can avoid certain things by playing your 'no Korean' card. Your 'foreigner' card.
