And commercial software going all subscription based is total BS. Just sell me Photoshop. I understand it’s how they make money but I hate how the everything has gone that way. I still have a copy of Lightroom I bought outright in about 2012. Sibelius too. I’ll use them until I literally can’t.

This makes a lot of sense. I really hate subscription models, especially when they’re desperate to get your card number for their free trial that turns into paid. It’s one thing if you *must* subscribe to use (i.e a streaming service), but very different if you’re just tricking people into premium.

This drives me crazy. I’ve also started to notice really big disparities between monthly/annual prices. (They’d call them discounts, I suppose). I’ve been demoing one that wants $99 for an annual subscription, or TWICE that if you don’t want to pay the year upfront. They really want you on the hook.

Last I checked, my institution was paying for one (1) ChatGPT pro account. The CTL director used to write the username and password on the back of a business card and give it out to people. Thats about the extent to which I think any university should be investing in AI.
