The Wide Wide Sea by Hampton Sides. Story of Captain Cook’s last voyage. Fascinating and really makes you grateful not to be an 18th century mariner.

Comparing 2020 KH to 2024 KH doesn’t make sense. By 2024 she was a different candidate, a very well known quantity, and by EVERY possible metric a better candidate than sloppy, deranged Trump. So please miss me with your dismissal of misogyny as a factor.

Totally agree. It’s awful and a betrayal and many will continue to suffer. But there are only hard or harder choices to make right now. We still need to pick ourselves up, keep building a bigger coalition and push ahead. It’s the only way. This was one skirmish in a very long war.

I’m sorry did you miss the 2024 presidential election? A brown woman with a resume longer than DJT’s red tie lost. Misogyny is very very powerful in the USA.

Why are Miller and his ilk STILL obsessed with communism??? Like that is a boomer preoccupation my dude. Literally no one is talking about communism in 2025 lol.

It’s not about YOU. His point is that video-based SM is way way more effective at reaching a larger and more diverse audience. Twitter and this place are more of a closed circle. Being sanctimonious about Meta or TT is not going to help left/Dem messaging get out there in the short term.

Yes. This bish is the literal OPPOSITE of a public health expert. Supplement shiller who will worsen health outcomes for pretty much everyone but especially vulnerable people. I doubt she even understands what the purpose of public health policy is.

Where is the reporting for this? I’m sure Europe is figuring out how to deal with our abandonment of them but saying the Ukraine will “replace” the US is on its face absurd. Ukraine is not capable of filling the position the US held in the alliance.

Total abnegation of the responsibilities of a public health official. He’s a menace to our health.

Not to be pedantic but this execrable windbag graduated from Yale law and yet doesn’t know how to use the term “begs the question”. In addition to just the outright lying.

I’m sorry, what??? Your OP was incorrect. The IMPORTER pays the tariff. That’s the whole point. US businesses are paying the tariffs. Confusing imports for exports is not a matter of “succinctness”…
Your post was incorrect and your rant was misdirected bc of sloppy language use. Do better.

09.04.2025 12:27 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

Yeah that’s my point. Let’s be clear when we use language! The importer (goods consignee) pays the tariff to CBP.

09.04.2025 12:16 — 👍 2    🔁 0    💬 2    📌 0

What? The company importing does pay the tariff. I’m importing printed books from Singapore and Italy. I’m paying the tariff! Also not all imported goods are crap.

To pay $100 or $125 for a museum catalogue for instance so we have to make them in Europe or Asia. And no one is going to bring back binderies here. That business has already been contracting in Europe. Just one little example of how these fuckin tariffs are just dumb as an across the board measure

07.04.2025 22:35 — 👍 2    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

Art books in the US for a few reasons but one of them is that there are two binderies that still do sewn bindings for these high end illustrated books. Almost everyone—museums, galleries—prints overseas bc it’s simply too expensive to make these books here most of the time. Consumers don’t want

07.04.2025 22:35 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

I run a tiny publishing house. We make art books which are wildly not profitable lol. These tariffs are insane bc no one knows when he will change his fucking mind and also bc goods and projects are in the pipeline that we didn’t project extra costs for. Its at least 40-50% more expensive to make
