I unsubbed ages ago and just bought Rare Replay digitally on my Series S. With how much I play Xbox(mine is basically a Rare Replay machine), I realized it was cheaper and easier to buy the games I want outright rather than have an expensive monthly subscription.

It’s such a perfect fit, it’s shocking they never did it officially. Virtual Boy Wario Land is so good, and playing it on 3DS feels so good, it actually made me buy a real Virtual Boy.

But no, they’ve done everything possible to make the system as hard to access as possible, as if they want it to flop again. My theory is that Nintendo is simply done adding perks to the $20 tier. Anything they add will go to Expansion Pack instead. All to make as much money as they can.

Nintendo’s objective should’ve been to make Virtual Boy as accessible as possible. Let people try games from a system that very few people have used, then once they find out that Virtual Boy Wario Land is actually brilliant, then they might be interested in what should’ve been an optional accessory.

Adding Virtual Boy to Expansion Pack does nothing but gatekeep the system from people not subscribed to it. If N64 GBA and GameCube didn’t sell someone on Expansion Pack, Virtual Boy sure as hell won’t.
As for requiring either a $25 or $99 accessory, it should be a bonus, not another barrier.

While I’m glad Virtual Boy is coming to NSO, with an accessory that attempts to reproduce the feeling of using the system, I think Nintendo’s going about it all wrong. I think they should’ve
-Add Virtual Boy to the $20 NSO tier, NOT Expansion Pack
-Allow games to be playable in 2D docked or handheld

Play by using a Switch OLED, and it might be a decent facsimile actually. Switch 2 though, forget about it.

SoT was a risky project, and it paid off for them big. Though, it doesn’t seem like Rare’s going to take another risk any time soon. I’m glad SoT is successful, it just sucks that endlessly supporting one live-service game is what it takes for studios to stay afloat these days.
