Stinky

This picture is hard to look at. I was faking being happy so maybe I could be happy. I was struggling with anorexia and DV. I was screamed at for wearing rainbow eyeliner because “being gay isn’t a personality”. It’s hard because you don’t realize how much you’ve grown until you look back. #growth

Still trying to raise money to cover the loss from a tow

But if you ask those I trusted with my pain
Those I trusted to catch me while in free fall
I’m just throwing sticks and stones

I am now easily spooked just taking out the garbage
I can’t even ride the bus without a panic attack
I locked myself inside and threw away the key.

My body feels like I’m wearing a poorly made suit
I can’t go “home” and feel safe
Places once filled with memories are now filled with ghosts

I was screamed at for weeks for “cheating”
A hole was punched in the wall for “picking someone else”
And I took the blame because it was my fault for being there, even if I didn’t want to

The venom and anger and guilt bubbled to the surface at one time
I could have done a million things but all I did was tell the truth
And apparently, I’m just throwing stones

I bit my tongue for a year before I would even acknowledge it
Drinking myself into a comfortable numb so I wouldn’t have to
All until I was told it was “my drinking problem” that caused it in the first place

That’s all I wanted to say

I choose art over violence
Compassion and caring over hate
Empathy over anger
If my biggest moral failing is being gay, that’s ok
If you swallow the poison and let the burn fuel your hate
Maybe the moral failing isn’t with me after all, maybe it’s with you

Whatever you do, don’t bury me
Throw my body on the White House steps
Show them what their hate fueled
Tell them how I volunteered my time without reward
Tell them how filled blessing boxes, even though my pantry was empty
Tell them about how my patience never ran dry and my heart refused to hate

I know I won’t make it
Even though I am bull headed, I’ll be outnumbered
If the cowards don’t have the guts to finish me off
Don’t leave me suffering, just pull the plug
Send me home to the lord
Where I don’t have to deal with their bigotry anymore
