Thanks! Someone had responded to my Wordpress with the same info - weirdly, I had never managed to get a reverse-image search on Google to identify it; perhaps hadn't done it correctly.

01.12.2025 12:36 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The magic of the internet: a commenter on my Wordpress identifies this as the Bridge of Feugh over the River Dee at Banchory, from a slightly different angle here:

Mystery solved! I can get on with a day of teaching now.
19th-century black-and-white photograph in an oval frame made of brass, with the gilding worn away, held by a hand just visible on left. The photograph - slightly faded (an albumen print) - shows two and a half arches of a stone bridge with jutting bustresses, crossing from the right over a rocky stream, with trees on teh opposite bank in the background. Location unknown - somewhere in England, Scotland, or Wales, based on the bridge style, landscape, and comparable 19th-century photographs.
Trying to get back into a regular writing habit, I revived my Wordpress this weekend (am not cool enough for Substack). It looks at Victorian photo souvenirs and the visual creation of heritage. ๐๏ธ๐๐ท๐ธ
I'd also love to know if anyone can identify this bridge!
