#linguist bsky, ... I have a shadow of a memory of a Labov story where he got in trouble (possibly at his industrial chemist job before going into academia) for having an issue of Workers World (or another similarly Communist newsletter) visible on his desk

Does this ring a bell for anyone?

Another sociolx crowdsource: there is a commonly reformulation of Brown and Levinson’s face and politeness theory that is modern and heavily cited. I’ve only heard about it and never read it; I have a student working on this. Does this paper sound familiar to anyone?
