No Kings Alliance โ€” No Kings Authoritarianism thrives on silence. The No Kings Alliance exists to make capitulation impossibleโ€”and resistance unstoppable.

And now there is a #NoKings alliance.

Thesis: a social media platform that does not make you addicted will always have fewer daily active users than one that does make you addicted.

Question: How many fewer? 10%? 90%?

Wanted to talk about the fact that the ONLY form of communication/transparency the MAGA world seems to believe in is "trolling the libs." And why they're doing that. And why it's so stupid.

Trump, 79, Wanders Off While Meeting Japanese Prime Minister In an embarrassing moment caught on video, itโ€™s clear Donald Trump gets confused and walks away from Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.

This is fine, nothing to see on that video. Nothing at all. Just very stable genius stuff.

AI Is the Bubble to Burst Them All I talked to the scholars who literally wrote the book on tech bubblesโ€”and applied their test.

Beautifully written, funny and true imho:

โ€œAI MAY NOT simply be โ€œa bubble,โ€ or even an enormous bubble. It may be the ultimate bubble. What you might cook up in a lab if your aim was to engineer the Platonic ideal of a tech bubble.โ€

One thing I love about elections in California is how many options there are to cast your ballot. I chose to vote in person more than a week ahead of voting day.

A certain sign of how much a party or governments supports democracy is whether they make it easier or harder to vote.

Seems like Trump having to blatantly lie about Reaganโ€™s policies is a pretty good sign itโ€™s the Republican Party that has shifted drastically to the extreme.

Itโ€™s not a ballroom he wants. He just calls it that.

He wants a throne room. Where the subjects and vassals can prostrate themselves in front of him.

At least that makes a lot more sense to me.

Fediverse Report #139 On the changing environment that the open social web exists in, and how to build better places for communities.

@laurenshof.online observes that "the process [for how to build online social communities] described by Werdmuller is pretty much opposite to how development on both the fediverse and the ATmosphere has happened so far".

I agree! And I think @werd.io is right!

Trump Administration Live Updates: Pentagon Accepts $130 Million Donation to Help Pay Troops During Shutdown

The amount is meaningless โ€” less than one day of salary. But the principle is important: once the armed services are paid by the oligarchs, they become a private militia, and we no longer have a country.

Hi, I'm the ProPublica reporter who's been tracking an unusual stat: U.S. citizens grabbed by immigration agents.

I did it because the government isnโ€™t.

This is what I found.
