But unless you are scared of/disgusted by creepy crawlies it must be said that neither #Squirm 🪱 nor #KingdomOfTheSpiders 🕸️🕷️ is particularly scary or thrilling. Actually both are surprisingly dull for most of their running time if I'm being completely honest. 📽️🎞️

🕸️🕷️ First off, #KingdomOfTheSpiders is no Arachnophobia! But it's definitely more akin to proper animal attack exploitation. Although you have to wait for the shit to properly hit the fan before we reach genuine camp territory! 🫣 Still poorer than Squirm, unless you prefer bad movies. 📽️🎞️

🪱 #Squirm is surprisingly well-made for a mere animal attack exploitation film. 😮 Although its cult status would be more easily comprehensible if it was just pure rubbish. 😕 But I guess it's just down to the fact that the film's foes are pretty unusual for the genre, i.e. EARTHWORMS?! 📽️🎞️

I admit that the FIRST time #AHouseOfDynamite played out its scenario it was quite riveting. But by the third time, even though all the three sections in the film are told from slightly different perspectives, it was unfortunately quite another story. So that gimmick did not work for me! 📽️🎞️

Casual reminder that the myth of “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps” is a cruel hoax designed to convince poor people from all walks of life that the injustices they face are a result of their own actions, rather than an oppressive system rigged against them.

⚡ Also feels like this adaptation underlines a bit too heavily who's the true monster of the story. Certainly has the most humane "Frankenstein monster" of all the different incarnations that I can think of. 🤔 And, surely the film should've been titled 'Victor'...? 😏 #Frankenstein 📽️🎞️

⚡ Surprisingly faithful adaptation. Not JUST in relation to Shelley's novel but also to previous adaptations. So there's not a whole lot of surprises left for the viewer IF you're familiar with earlier versions of the story. #Frankenstein 📽️🎞️

⚡ I must admit that I would've expected Guillermo del Toro's #Frankenstein to be even more deltoro-esque. 🫤 That said, the film's technically and aesthetically impressive for sure but ultimately it just lacks that certain je ne sais quoi that would've given it the final spark of life. 📽️🎞️

Admittedly a lot happens (esp. compared to its modest running time) but ultimately #DOA just isn't nearly as clever as it probably hoped to be. And I'm not sure if it'd been much better even if it'd embraced the film noir aesthetics of the film's opening and finale more... 📽️🎞️

This neo-noir thriller is one of those films I had seen as a kid on TV but for some reason I hadn't come across since. 🤔 And I must admit that I had recalled #DOA being better than it turned out to be. 📽️🎞️

As far as I can recall #TheHousemaid is the first pre-90s 🇰🇷 film I've seen. 🤔 Too overly melodramatic for my taste. But what esp. ruined it for me is how they pussyfooted and pulled the rug under your feet with the ending. 🤨 One's used to Koreans making much more unflinching films. #하녀 📽️🎞️

But even though #FairGame wasn't a success back in the day I still think it's actually pretty entertaining, at least for a mindless style over substance action thriller. And I'm not saying that JUST because Cindy is admittedly a sight for poor eyes. 📽️🎞️

🔫 All gripes aside, #Nikita still deserves credit for being one of the trailblazers. Since back in the 80s/90s female action movie leads were a LOT rarer than they are now, almost unheard of. And Anne Parillaud is absolutely brilliant! 👏 #LaFemmeNikita 📽️🎞️

🔫 That said, #Nikita certainly would have plenty of building blocks to be a much better, genuinely brilliant action thriller. But it's especially the action sequences that are quite underwhelming if we're being honest. 🤫 #LaFemmeNikita 📽️🎞️

🔫 I had been meaning to rewatch Luc Besson's #Nikita for God knows how long so figured Tchéky Karyo's passing would finally be the perfect excuse to get it done. And while I've never thought that #LaFemmeNikita was a masterpiece I must admit that I had remembered it being better... 📽️🎞️

The latest series of #SlowHorses is the poorest so far IMO. But that said, I have to go with the same thing that I kept saying about Billions... Even at its poorest it's still better than most TV series out there! 📺

🚶‍♂️🚶‍♂️🚶‍♂️ #TheLongWalk is by all accounts a perfectly fine film adaptation of the Stephen King novel... Except for the ending! 🤨 Which is where they duffed the ball quite a bit for me. 📽️🎞️

One final shout out to Gavan O'Herlihy's main baddie. 'Cos if you just ignore the ridiculous facepaint and hairstyle, his gang leader makes for quite a chilling dastadly foe to Bronson's lone vigilante. 👏 One of the few GENUINELY good things about #DeathWish3. 📽️🎞️
