A 15-mile-per-hour speed limit for motorized two-wheel devices — which e-bikes are — is eminently reasonable. And it doesn't cost much time at all, columnist Charles Komanoff found.

So we can’t park cars elsewhere when it’s the City trying to create bus boarding zones that keep kids visible.
But ripping up a bike lane that has improved safety for everyone on the block? Absolutely.

01.08.2025 20:58 — 👍 6 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0One of the factors in Robyn's death was the lack of sideguards on commercial trucks.
The original truck sideguard patent was issued July 24th, 1896 (that is not a typo). Most other countries require truck sideguards and have so for a decade or more.
I was interviewed about this by ProPublica.
"I may be be an outlier on my final opinion, but indulge a guy who has logged nearly 10,000 hours biking daily in the five boroughs since the early 70s and who led [Trans Alt] when cycling advocacy lay completely beyond the fringe," writes Charlie Komanoff.

31.07.2025 15:39 — 👍 17 🔁 5 💬 1 📌 1Sure this *looks* good but by not narrowing the roadway, DOT allows drivers to continue reckless speeding. AND taking space from pedestrians is egregious, especially as the population of the area grows. Build for the great city you want, not for the failed city you have, @chrislhayes.bsky.social.
