Are data centres a threat to the Great Lakes? | The Narwhal Ontario has a lot to learn from the U.S. about the data centre boom, and what it means to the Great Lakes

More than 100 data centres have gone up in the Greater Toronto Area, on Lake Ontario. The Great Lakes region is drawing the facilities because of the favourable climate and abundance of water for cooling systems. What does this mean for our freshwater ecosystems?

I’ve always loved this time of year but living up here I love it even more because it’s the precious time between the snow and black flies lol. I’ve had a Ruffed Grouse hanging around the back of my house lately and this Pine Marten came to visit. Such a sweet animal.

Listened to Reveil most of yesterday and fell asleep to its sounds. Woke when it was over, went outside to a sky full of stars, the sound of peepers, and a soft roar from wind or water.

John Scott was the real deal. His brilliance and lack of artifice slices and speaks for his dark content reminding me the best art speaks for itself without the art talk required today. Not that I need reminding. Great exhibition @mcmichaelgallery.bsky.social

Thoughts on Canada's Unprecedented Election "Trump is the first American president to lose a Canadian election."

Here are my initial thoughts on the 2025 election - what it means for Canada in the short term and what it means for the movement of social democracy in the long.

But annoying that 47 notes appear at the end of the essay and not in the body of the text. Jeez.

I’ve become interested in Tom Thomson because of living here. I did not see the exhibition North Star at McMichael but recently got the deluxe catalogue out of the local library. I found this essay by Douglas Hunter particularly interesting.

THE PRICE OF EGGS The Price of Trump's Lies

In Canada egg prices remain stable. Here's my piece on Trump's disastrous handling of the crisis as avian flu threatens an even bigger disaster.

What a relief to be able to walk again! The trails where I live are made for snowmobiles not feet. It’s always been difficult in the winter and since my beloved dog died, I just didn’t get out. When I’m outside walking, I can’t help myself from calling his name. I’m so grateful for his life.

I was tear-gassed protesting free trade. Can I now say, β€œI told you so”? I was tear-gassed protesting free trade. Now that Trump’s tariffs may signal the beginning of the end of globalization, do I get to say, β€œI told you so?"

Recalling 2 fine people in my small rural Ontario community who were somewhat elder to me and were staunch social democrats.
They too faced tear gas in Quebec City.
Both have since died so are not here to say "I told you so".
Part of me is glad they are not here to witness this sh*t show.
