Love to live in a country which takes young people's safety online so seriously you have to give a random third party website your full ID to send DMs but should a young person be trans it's apparently open season for every embittered 50-something out there.

Those who claim that online ID checks are to “protect the children” are lying to you, full stop! Not only will they open the gateway to more censorship, but it will also increase identity frauds even more.

I'll give you a US example:.

The main age-verification lobbyist — a man who largely believes porn should be outlawed — admitted the state-level bills he pushed for won't work and were really a predicate for federal action.

He wants the DOJ to seize domains.

Next week the House E&C Committee is looking to run something of a shock and awe campaign, debating at least 19 bills that they say are related to "protecting kids online." Most of which are actually about censorship and control. Don't buy the framing. It's always the same damn thing.
