The essay is fantastic. It also explains something my mother insisted on that I always thought was urban legend. She warned us to never buy secondhand clothing as it could be contaminated by death (taken off an embalmed body). I wonder now if this is not a lost connection to warnings about crape.

Oh no! I saw her live in an acoustic concert at the Commodore in Vancouver. We sat at tables near the stage, like in a nightclub. It was amazing.
