“Certainly it will not be obvious to most kids. But good films are as worthy of their time as good books, and the best of them are as artistically rich as the finest literature our nation has produced.”

I’m just here because a bunch of friends will no doubt abandon ship from Facebook/Twitter so if this social media platform takes off, I’m ready! I mostly post news here since Canadians can’t post news articles on Facebook.

This section describing “Indifference to Reality” feels like a forever relevant fact.
“What will remain is his grin when he finally began rapping that song. It was wide, persistent, almost cartoonish in shape. The grin of a man having the time of his life at the expense of an enemy.”

“Barack Obama delivered to black people the hoary message that if they work twice as hard as white people, anything is possible. But Trump’s counter is persuasive: Work half as hard as black people, and even more is possible.” - Ta-Nehisi Coates (From 2017)

“They should be communicating to voters that Trump “is shutting down the government, and stripping it for parts to sell to billionaires,” […] But Democrats aren’t getting it across, a reality that is disheartening but also symbolic. “It’s part of why we fuckin’ lost. It’s why people stayed home.””

Received the latest issue of Noir City magazine, which is published by Eddie Muller’s Film Noir Foundation.
Eddie does NOT hold back on the implications of a Trump victory and the ramifications it could have on access to classic film.
Also appreciate his clapback to MAGA types.
“neurodivergence is never an excuse for repeated rude or bad behavior. In fact, this seems less of an issue of emotional intelligence or personality diversity than just plain obnoxiousness, obstinance and entitlement.”

It has definitely gone off the rails. I find one of the only things still worthwhile is the Facebook groups these days.

True enough. To be fair GoodReads does acknowledge the page count no matter the length of each individual book. So I guess that’s something at least! I’m personally hoping I can reach my goal earlier than New Year’s Eve this time around.
03.01.2025 02:58 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Nice! In 2023, I set a goal of 25 books and reached it. 2024 I upped it to 30 and met it. For 2025 I’m also setting a goal of 35 so we’ll see how I do!
Hint: if you’re worried about making your goal, it’s totally okay to pad your total with some short books like novellas and whatnot. 🤣
My year in reading as documented by the data amassed in my GoodReads profile.
Anyways I feel I’ve got a healthy mix of books with a balance between non-fiction and fiction (including some classics) and a good mix of topics too.
