Keith Haring died of AIDS aged 31 on 16 Feb 1990.
One of his last works, Unfinished Painting, was deliberately incomplete, reflecting the devastating, unquantifiable loss to the arts due to AIDS.

Out of all the ID tools that I had access to during my fellowship, this one was the most impactful! A game changer in TxID.
It allowed us to achieve rapid/ accurate Dx of IFDs and initiate effective management. In some cases, we have proceeded directly to the OR (based on the results of this paper)

Single-Center Retrospective Cohort
Analysis of the concordance of non-invasive mold plasma cDNA PCR results with invasive specimen fungal test results in patient with suspect invasive mold disease (IMD)
Study Design
β’ 506 patients underwent testing with non-invasive Mold plasma
CDNA PCR and invasive specimen (tissue and or BAL fluid) fungal assays
β’ Invasive specimens: 123 tissues, 426
BAL fluids (43 patients had both)
β’ Primary outcome: Concordance of non-invasive and invasive results
Invasive Specimen Testing
Bronchoscopy
Tissue Blopsy
Concordant: 88.5% (448)
Discordant 11.5% (58)|
-Proven IMD: 64.7% (11) had fungal sinusitus or limb infection
- Probable IMD: 29.2% (12) had 1-2 mold colonies in culture
Key Finding: Mold plasma c/DNA PCR was highly concordant with invasive fungal test results, suggesting that invasive specimen collection can be safely curtailed in the majority of immunocompromised patients with suspected IMD
