Such a busy night shift last night, think I did 30 positive blood cultures, 5 CSF’s, 5 urgent joint fluids, half a dozen calls, twice just after I’d stuffed my mouth full of food!

I had a great time though, forgot how much I’d missed nights! 🦠🧫🥼

Not the best picture in the world, but E.coli growing on CRE chromogenic, Big 5 genes negative on cepheid, AmpC and ESBL on combi discs, is there another mechanism in play that anyone can think of for the mero and erta resistance? #IDSKY

We watched it last night with a 13yo cousin and luckily was the same didn’t get any of those references and was confused why I was laughing so much!

They went back to the patient to get a better history and found out they had been scratched when separating 2 dogs fighting.

Tried to get a picture of the gram but it was staining so poorly so have stolen one from the internet! But really interesting case and shows the need for accurate history!

Had a classic Capnocytophaga canimorsus from blood cultures at the end of last week, pt was admitted with ?pyelonephritis until they did history again following GNB from positive blood culture after 19 hours incubation.
