La barrera más difícil de romper cuando hablamos de #accesibilidad es la primera: sensibilizar y convencer de la necesidad. Sin personas que hagan decisiones hacia la accesibilidad, no llegaremos a nada.

A question for English-speaking #accessibility experts: isn't using #a11y less accessible? Doesn't it "hide" the information? As a non-English speaker and researcher, it took me a while to understand this acronym (?) and it does seem less accessible to me.

Yes. Remember that the Alt Text must convey what you want the image to transmit. If, for example, you want people to guess where you are, give the clues, not the answer. If you just want to show where you are without location, just describe the view.

Most platforms have it now (even instagram) but they are not so visible. Bluesky is great on giving that visibility and even making it mandatory! A great win for accessibility!

You're welcome! Here in Bluesky you can go to Settings and select that Alt text is always required. It is simple and helps a lot!

Yes, everybody can see it by clicking on the Alt button. Check this one, for example, click on the button and you will read the caption:

It is quite easy to access from any device, just click on the ALT symbol and the text will appear below. Alt text is a great accessibility tool for everyone, not only visually impaired. It adds context and helps those with cognitive impairment.

It depends. It should convey what you want the image to convey. For example, if the important part of the image is two people talking, just write that, ignore the background. Also, don't interpret the image; just describe it. Check this guide for more info: www.w3.org/WAI/tutorial...

Depends on the screen reader, really. Some have the option of "free reading" which picks virtually everything that is typed, not image. However, the safest alternative is to do both as mentioned before.
