09.11.2025 18:43 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I didn't realise speed limit repeaters were made from lead these days
09.11.2025 18:43 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Reading could certainly do with some more greenery along its streets I've noticed in the short time I've been here
03.11.2025 21:41 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Ah the very unique and very slow gates at Redcar. Only crossing in the UK like it, perhaps the only in Europe.
03.11.2025 21:40 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0New! After eight years of waiting, they're online! See London's unbuilt motorways as even their planners never could in our amazing, immersive Ringways Map, hosted by the amazing SABRE Maps. It *might* be the best thing we've ever done. #ringways
03.11.2025 14:47 β π 53 π 21 π¬ 4 π 5Good to hear everyone is safe looking at that damage - notably the train driver! It will be interesting to know what similarities if any this incident has to the Carmont derailment back in 2020. Hopefully lessons have been learned.

02.11.2025 09:55 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A triangular warning sign on a lamp post, warning of an unprotected quayside or riverbank. The car is of a design that makes the sign many decades old.
There's a few of these lining the Thames in Reading. Vintage.
@showmeasign.online
A sign on a lamp post. The top is a red circle with a white 'C', the bottom is a black and white plate stating "7am-7pm, Charge for (picture of a car) only, Pay on line by midnight tomorrow" (note the space between "on" and "line")
The congestion charges started in Oxford today. If only they had someone check the spelling on the signs!
29.10.2025 20:18 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A field with four rows of fences close together and various gates, gaps and barriers in esch one. Grass is mown around the fences
A lone small gate in a field with far reaching views across Oxfordshire in the background. The wooden hate has a large metal and plastic pad in the middle to press to open the gate.
A view the same as image 1 but from the other direction, showing different gates.
A green sign with the text "Centre for Outdoor Accessibility Training" with the Natural England logo in the top right corner
Was quite nice to stumble across this last week in the Chilterns. The Centre for Outdoor Accessibility has a lot of gates for testing!
27.10.2025 21:17 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A newly constructed pavement in amongst roadworks. A number of large sloped kerbstones form a ramp along the kerbline for around 3m. Behind thr pavement is a cycleway still under construction.
One added benefit of seeing @jayforeman.bsky.social and @markcooperjones.bsky.social launch their excellent book in Bristol on Thursday was I got a taste of some Dutch kerbs!

23.10.2025 21:56 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Right now there are a lot of Union Jacks hanging from streetlights and St George's Crosses on mini-roundabouts. Kent is bucking the trend by permanently adding EU flags to its road signs. Just what is going on in Dover? www.roads.org.uk/blog/red-whi...

Artist's rendering of an artificial island, shown as a cut-away so the interior is visible. A cable stayed bridge carries a road onto the island which spirals down underground, while buildings and a marina are visible around the edges
Diagram showing a small part of the Kent coast with Dover visible; projecting out across the Channel are two lines, one representing a rail tunnel and the other a long road bridge to an island and a tunnel on from there
Sketch of an artificial island, with a cable stayed bridge leading to it, which has a large marina surrounded by hotels and casinos
You can catch a train to France if you want, but back in the 80s there were hopes you'd be able to drive there too. Meet EuroRoute, the unbelievable plan for a road across the Channel via bridges, a tunnel and two artificial islands. www.roads.org.uk/articles/eur...

A single lane road with a cycle lane heading towards a bus stop and a sump buster, a petruding metal and concrete lump, in the background. A pair of blue and yellow pedal cycle and bus only signs are in the foreground either side of the road. Below them are 'max speed 10' signs, and a yellow warning sign for the sump buster.
A sump buster for @rantyhighwayman.bsky.social and some interesting use of advisory speed signs for @showmeasign.online
11.10.2025 09:20 β π 4 π 2 π¬ 4 π 0Manchester City Council have lowered the speed limit on the Mancunian Way to 30mph. Or at least they say they have - but creating a 30 limit on a motorway is, legally, almost impossible. So what is the speed limit now? #manchester www.roads.org.uk/blog/schrodi...

09.10.2025 17:01 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Not sure to what effect it has on Southend traffic. Removing this 'bump' and replacing with a pair of LILOs would reduce braking and accelerating, improving air quality in the local area at least, potentially lessening the rate of collisions too (which appears to be high here and at next junction).

Settling in to Reading well, it's a lovely place but the cycle infrastructure is almost non-existent. Shall join the local cycling campaign group at their next meeting to see if I am of any use.

Fascinating peak beneath the surface of one of Londonβs new Cycleways - you can see the complex drainage system that ensures bike lanes help protect the capital from heavy rain & the effects of climate change.
And donβt they look great when theyβre finished? ππ²π
This stuck out to me initially reading the story too
900 lives saved from harm
vs
one grumpy person
While I understand the BBCβs imperative to provide balance in stories, at times it can feel completely ludicrous. Data vs one personβs entirely anecdotal opinion isnβt balance.

Casualties on 20 to 30mph roads between July and September 2024 were the lowest for the three month-period since records began in 1979
