Panelling Pain Kayla E. comes to VCU with her new graphic novel featuring an unflinching narrative about a young girl's abusive childhood.

Precious Rubbish is Kayla E’s new intense, stark graphic novel about a harrowing childhood boldly illustrated in a kind of 50s era Aw Shucks style. I wrote about her & her book talk tomorrow at VCU. www.styleweekly.com/panelling-pa...

Ways of Listening Alicia DΓaz on dance, the body’s knowledge, and co-creating change with β€œArts for Climate Justice for Puerto Rico.”

"As someone who works with the body, there’s this clear awareness that bodies are not just neutral instruments that we use to [move].” I had great conversation w Alicia DΓaz, a dancer & professor here in Richmond. Dancers know things in deep, earthly ways. I hope everyone has dancers in their life.

I’m so sorry, Roxane. Sending peace to you and your family. Sometimes I think moms are perpetually preparing for Let’s Make a Deal. Remember when Monty Hall would ask the audience who has 14 bobby pins and a bouncy ball? And they’d get $100 or something?

@sommerb.bsky.social interviewed the authors of American Weather, Mary Margaret Alvarado and @coriejcole.bsky.social for the Brooklyn Rail. It's a very sad and hopeful book. I am happy to have helped with it.

American Weather is a beautiful, hyper-local artist book about something very terrible, gun violence in the USA. I interviewed poet Mary Margaret Alvarado, publisher Aaron Cohick, and ceramicist Corie J. Cole about how they made it. It’s over at The Brooklyn Rail. @newlightspress.bsky.social

A lot of people on teevee have veins popping out of their heads when they smile or are being dramatic or are just looking off into the distance and I think it's because they are unhealthy, maybe malnourished.

The Artist Books of IBΓ© Bulinda Crawley Sommer Browning interviews IBΓ© Bulinda Crawley on her artist books and her founding of the IBΓ© Arts Institute in Hopewell, Virginia.

What a wonderful thing it was to talk with IBΓ© Bulinda Crawley about her incredible artist books (each one a kind of compassionate & fierce time machine) and her process of hand crafting them. Thank you, @burnaway.org. burnaway.org/magazine/a-r...
