If everything weaves together in a way that feels natural and makes sense, it becomes much easier for your reader to get lost in the story. ๐คฉ The story comes alive for your reader.

โจ Your MCโs motivation affects the big and small choices they make.
โจ Their backstory can direct their entire approach to the world and other people.
โจ Their perspective shades the mood of scenes.

Just like in our world, everything in a story is connected. ๐งต๐ธ๏ธ
This might sound obvious, but sometimes we miss a potential connection that could bring the whole book together.

Heading reads: Testimonial Text reads: Before we started, I was a bit anxious because I'd consulted with other editors, many of whom don't understand, nor care to understand, certain work formats. The first call I had with Becca really annihilated my concerns and filled me with excitement to finish my work and get her opinion on it. I've never seen an editor with such a wide breadth of personal tastes and a genuine care for the author's vision, so this was a breath of fresh air and then some. As the writer, it's important to know both what their fear is and why they have it. You might have to follow the whys several layers deep, but the work will pay off.
When you're writing from a place of knowing the intricacies of your character, they'll come so much more alive for your readers!

Maybe they fear rejection, failure, or being forgotten. They might even fear something that others would consider positive, like love or success.

What does your main character fear? ๐จ
I'm not just talking about a fear of heights or snakes. I'm talking about fears that run deeper. Fears that affect their choices and their interactions with others.

3 questions you can ask to help bring your characters to life:
โ๏ธ What do they want most?โฃโ
โ๏ธ What fears and hopes lie behind that want? (Why do they want this?)โฃโ
โ๏ธ What would they do to get what they want?
