You can now watch the recording of our recent webinar, which explored new research calling for a step change in UK Intergovernmental Relations through the Council of the Nations and Regions. We discussed a new model of collaborative governance, the purpose and remit of the Council, the English dimension, and international examples of good intergovernmental relations. Our panellists, and report co-authors, were: Dewi Knight (PolicyWISE, The Open University) Professor Michael Kenny and Alex Walker (The Bennett Institute for Public Policy at the University of Cambridge) The event was chaired by Catherine May (PolicyWISE, The Open University), and took place live on the 13th of May.

Headlines today are saying that the NHS has hit its 'appointments target'. Most articles - like this one - neglect to mention that this is a policy and target that only applies to NHS England. It goes to show that it's more important than ever to Mind Your Policy Language!

And of course, this week’s Comparative Coffee is a flat white from Ducie Street Warehouse in Manchester. There were great ideas and insight from all five jurisdictions on a big shared societal challenge. We hope to share more details soon. ☕

Dewi and Eira then joined them in Manchester to lead a UK & Ireland workshop as part of our cross-nation policy cluster work, meeting with key individuals from each jurisdiction to share knowledge and ideas for possible collaborative working.

Lucy and Catherine met with Laura Jack from Policy@Manchester, exploring the benefits of researcher-policymaker collaboration, perspectives on devolution in North West England, and the unexpected challenges of event crowd management when major political news breaks half way through an event!

A week of collaboration, policy discussions, and more great coffee! This week has been full of engaging conversations and cross-nation collaboration.
Dewi kicked things off with Alex from the Bennett Institute for Public Policy, discussing our joint research on intergovernmental structures.
