Living in the bush up the valley from Mullumbimby. Teach Taiji and Bagua. Play Shakuhachi. Studying Japanese (again!). Making progress this time with NativShark. Gave away close to a dozen copies of Braiding Sweetgrass to family and friends.

I washed my shoes two days ago and they weren’t quite drying in this winter sun. Then, I found my new mobile dehydrator!

After six months of rain five out of every seven days it has been dry for about 10 days now. Today I just discovered this piece of log next to the road near my little house.

A few years ago, a tree fell brushing the edge of my house. Every so often I photograph this one plus meter long piece of the trunk. Sometimes there are lines of tiny white mushrooms. This is the most moss that has shown on this decomposing log. We have had a six month rainy season this year.

Unfortuantely, there is a paywall up for this article. Could you provide a synopsis?

I'm 79, I am in good shape for my age but I still have a lot of dealings with the Medical system. To have to worry about paying high sums for private health insurance or being forced to put off going to a doctor until things get really bad is something that would add great stress to my life.

yes, Libby is a wonderful service. I'm a member of our Friends of the Library. Libby are limited in their selection. Fortunately, I'm able to splash out once a month.

I immigrated to Australia from the US in 1986. I was treated for prostate cancer in 2019. The total out of pocket was $1500.00. That included travel and accommodation for several visits to Sydney. I could not afford to reside in the US if I wanted to.

Buy audiobooks & support local bookstores Libro.fm makes it possible for you to buy audiobooks directly through local bookstores.

BTW, if you buy an audiobook again and you want to avoid Audible, Libro.fm is a great source. You can download unlocked audio files of the books you buy and a part of your purchase price goes to an independent bookstore of your choice.

" Learn Japanese: Sensei" by Tae Kim for really strong grounding. It is linked to Benkyo . "Kana School" is a simple app for learning the kana. "Learn Japanese! - Kanji" app lets you draw the kanji starting with the simple and moving up. "Shirabe Jisho" is a dictionary. Most important, Have Fun!!!

Just finished listening to Gathering Moss the third book by Robin Wall Kimmerer. Being fascinated by moss! Yes. Her first book, Braiding Sweetgrass addicted me with life stories that lead me to a deeper understanding of life. The second, The Serviceberry. A short wonderful book.

I also use Kanji Kohee to help with learning the meanings of Kanji.

I like to watch anime.
I enjoy learning to write the kanji by hand. Writing sentences I learned as well as just writing the individual Kanji in order to get the correct form.

I use NativShark. They introduce new vocabulary in sentences. They start you off with conversational Japanese rather than the formal. They have a one week free trial. I signed up for a year after just three days.

Most important enjoy yourself

Variolation to Vaccine: Smallpox Inoculation Travels East to West and Back Again - Association for Asian Studies The history of the inoculation process itself might help shed light on the roots of controversies we are facing today. In the spring of 1721, England struggled in the grip of a deadly smallpox epidemi...

This is the fascinating story of how variolation against smallpox in asia in ancient times evolved to the smallpox vaccine. Well documented, no bullshit.

I like that they introduce hiragana early. If want to go deeper, I would recommend NativShark. Also, Kanji Koohii for kanji meaning with mnemonics. Most importantly Enjoy!
