"A dark day": Pentagon confiscates badges of Defense reporters The Pentagon Press Association said the move raises public accountability concerns and weakening free speech.

“Media companies broadly rejected the pledge, claiming it would criminalize national security reporting.

"Blocking journalists from doing their jobs for not complying with the whims of Pete Hegseth is a direct attack on press freedom.

NEW: There’s a disaster unfolding in Alaska right now. And no major network is covering it.

The remnants of Typhoon Halong battered western Alaska overnight. Homes, with people in them, have literally been swept into the Bering Strait.

At least 20 are missing. No comment from any federal agency.

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

Crypto spent millions to defeat Sherrod Brown and elect allies. It's ready for a repeat in 2026 The cryptocurrency industry spent millions last year to unseat a longtime critic, Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown in Ohio, and install its allies in Washington.

In 2024, GOP backers poured more than $40 million into the Ohio Senate race — more than four times their spending in any other Senate contest — to defeat Sherrod Brown. Brown is running again for the seat he held for three cycles before a GOP car salesman replaced him.

With One Damning Question, Ketanji Brown Jackson Defined the Supreme Court’s New Term The justice stripped the veneer of constitutional principle from the court’s latest blatant culture war.

KBJ’s blunt question today about the Supreme Court’s culture war hypocrisy kind of floored me, because it’s the kind of meta-criticism that we aren’t used to hearing from the justices.

It’s the second day of the term, and things are that dire already. slate.com/news-and-pol...

The assumption that the side “causing” the shutdown is destined to lose is faulty when the president is underwater on every issue, the economy is in decline, and he seems obsessed with everything but the shutdown issues (persecuting his enemies, politicizing the military, etc.).

Mike DeWine’s betrayal on fair maps will haunt Ohio for years: Leila Atassi Gov. Mike DeWine once vowed to lead Ohio out of gerrymandering, but after Issue 1’s defeat he broke his promise, leaving voters stuck with rigged maps and a democracy weakened by partisan manipulation...

MEANWHILE IN OHIO: Gerrymandering in Ohio has carved up Black/urban communities to weaken their voices—and ignored repeated court rulings. GOP Ohio has manufactured supermajorities to ram through laws most Ohioans don’t support.
This is the theft of democracy.

Among the first things Dems should legislate—if they win 2026: return to the previous version of the Telecommunications Act, thereby limiting the number of TV/Radio stations any entity can own—locally and nationally.
Bill Clinton really f**ked up when he allowed this corporate takeover in the 90s.
