Enormously proud to announce that Atsushi Kaneko's SEARCH AND DESTROY VOL 1 (based on Dororo by Osamu Tezuka) has been nominated for an Eisner Award in the manga category. We're proud to have worked with @fantagraphics.bsky.social to bring this title to North American fans.

In this photo, the snail is lying on its side with the hinge of the two shells pointing towards the camera. The shell and snail are both very bright green. The snail has white blotches on its back. Weβve looked at snails with one shell and slugs with no shells. Now letβs have a look at a snail with two shells, because Nature laughs at our puny attempts to pigeonhole.

Close up of the top of the tall white spot where there is a little pink cone shaped thing with tentacles growing out of the top.
The top of a solitary hydroid that has a large top. It's in the shape of a flower, but pink tentacles in place of petals & a deeper pink center part.
Questions: this is a solitary hydroid stalk; is the little guy at top a new top part that will become like last pic? If so, these things lose their tops & grow news ones?! Where does the one that falls of go? @schmidtocean.bsky.social dive 788 #AntarcticClimateConnections #MarineLife
01.02.2025 12:33 β π 21 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0A long slender three-tined fork made of silver lies in a museum case. There is a separate piece shaped like the bowl of a spoon that slides on and off of the fork tines using little metal grippy brackets, so it can transform from a spoon to a fork. The handle is shaped like a Roman soldier. it is labeled with a card that says '"German, seventeenth-century, silver. Item number 914C."
Itβs time for the RENAISSANCE SPORK!

14.01.2025 19:53 β π 27 π 11 π¬ 0 π 0A pinhole camera photo taken from Summer to Winter Solstice. It's a bit blurry as the aperture was made with a tiny needle and no focus mechanism. There are yellow to green lines across the photo, that's the Sun moving across the sky over the course of a day. The top line is from the Summer Solstice, the bottom line from the Winter Solstice. Cloudy days don't have any lines or broken lines as the Sun was obscured by clouds. There are some trees on the left, right and in the background.
A pinhole camera photo, a 6 month exposure from Summer to Winter solstice. There are trees on the right side and background. A house with two cars in the drive are visible almost in the center of the photo. The lines are made from the Sun moving across the sky with the bottom line being the Winter Solstice and the top line the Summer solstice. On cloudy days the lines are broken or not visible as the sun was obscured by clouds. The lines show some reflections from a tree trunk. The lines are mostly a white color with some hints of blue, green and yellow in places. Some of the colors could be from rain or snow staining the paper I was using.
Happy Winter Solstice!
These photos were taken with a pinhole camera I made from a beer can and left out from Summer to Winter Solstice - a 6 month exposure.
Bottom line = Winter Solstice. Top line = Summer Solstice.
The lines are the Sun moving across the sky w/some reflections. No line = clouds
A quick thread on making a coke or beer can pinhole camera.
You'll need black and white photographic paper, I use Ilford paper - see photo.
Needle, scissors, tape, waterproof tape, cardboard (for lid), can opener, tripod or something to stick the camera to at an angle.
Surely this image is from The Inferno?
