Wek'-wek the Falcon flew over all the country to see what it was like. When he came back to the mountain Oo'-yum-bel'-le to see his father Mol'-luk the Condor and his grandfather O-let'-te the Coyote-Man, Wek'-wek asked, "How can we make Mew'-ko (people)?" At that time, there were no people yet.

When the doctors saw the rock, they said, "The rock is your wife; she is going to give you a child. We must make a big fire." They made a big fire, then took hold of the rock, tore it loose, and rolled it into the fire. When the rock became hot, it burst open and out darted Wek'-wek the Falcon.

Every morning, Mol'-luk went off to hunt, and every evening, he came back to roost on a large rock on the east side of the mountain. One morning, he noticed that something was the matter with the rock but did not know what the trouble was or what to do for it. So he went off to consult the doctors.

There was a huge vulture whose name was Mol'-luk, the Condor. He was the son of O-let'-te, the Coyote-Man. His home was on the mountain called Oo-yum-bel'-le, from which he could look out over the world, across the bay and beyond to the ocean, and to the east to the tules, and the great valley.

Coyote emerging from the ocean.
O-le'-te, the Coyote-Man, emerged from the fog-covered ocean. There was no land yet, so O-le'-te sent a diving turtle down to bring up mud from the bottom of the ocean. O-le'-te mixed the mud with water and seeds and created the land. This is why O-let'-te, the Coyote-Man, was called the Creator.
