The colors on these Aspergillus were just so beautiful. The green one is Aspergillus flavus, and the tan one is Aspergillus terreus.
The exudate on the A. terreus literally made it โจ๏ธsparkleโจ๏ธ.
Fungus is so amazing โค๏ธ

25.01.2025 18:38 โ ๐ 7 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Of course! I believe this was grown on blood agar and this is just a Gram stain. The Bacillus are usually Gram positive rods, but they easily overdecolorize and turn red (like this) and the circles are the spores. Nocardia is a branching Gram positive rod often found in soil.

All of these colonies are the same genus! They are all Pseudomonas! Pseudomonas can appear mucoid, dry/wrinkly, metallic, or regular depending on the isolate. There are even 2 oxidase negative species! Do you know which ones they are?

This impressive guy grew out of a sputum! He looks and sounds menacing, turning the agar black and named Streptomyces badius. But he's likely harmless in this patient. A lit review showed it also protects strawberry plants and their bees from pathogens! ๐๐
