the finished product turned out pretty good.  like a salty dense cracker texture. would be great with any soups or stews. Traditionally it has been used by soaking in coffee or tea to eat it, or soaking in broth or water then frying in fat or oil.

Many easy ways to modify the recipes for flavor or nutrition.  Look up some different traditional and modern recipes to see for yourself.  It's simple and worth it for survival prepping foods. Better to learn how to make it to your liking and have it ready than find out later that you should have.

Typically it's mixed, kneaded, and rolled out to 1/4 inch thickness, cut into squares, holes poked into it. Then baked on each side for 30 mins and left to cool in the oven or on the counter overnight before bagging. There are many ways to make if over a camp fire or on a BBQ as well.

Add as much or as little salt as you prefer, but it does significantly extend the time that the hard tack stays preserved.

Yesterday's experiment turned out well. I tried out a quick recipe for making gluten free hard tack for long lasting food. This one is a mix of 3 cups corn masa flour, 1 cup rice flour, and 1/2 cup flax meal for added fiber, omega fatty acids, and healthy oils.
