Writing an encyclopedia entry for Henri Bergson and staying within word limit proves to be a memorable matter that requires a good amount of intellectual effort, time, free will, and mind-energy. The creative evolution of the task has brought laughter. I’m glad it has more than two sources. #PhilSky

I did a teach-in in the student center titled “Misology: How to Avoid Avoiding Dialogue.” We explored Plato’s Phaedo. It was packed! During Q&A, a student asked “where are the booze? Let’s talk liquor.” The crowd cheered. They were there for mixology. I don’t know who was more disappointed. #PhilSky

Continuing the random analogies…. Socrates tells Meno that we don’t know what we don’t know. I’ve known the we spend taxes on a lot of good stuff. I had no idea just how productive my tax dollars have been. The amount of medical and environmental research now lost will put us in the cave basement.

Don’t count the losses. They make one look bad. If we don’t count the losses, then they don’t exist. Maybe this is some kind of quasi-Berkeley-style experiment. To be is to be perceived. #PhilSky

Growing up, I knew these fairytales were much older, but my access to them was through Disney et al. It wasn’t until I was in college that I read the older texts from which Disney et al were taking the stories. I knew the names of Andersen and Grimm, e.g., but they were just names as a kid.
