Update: ankle swelled up so much I literally couldn't wear shoes even if I had to; worked from home with an ice pack held awkwardly in one hand; had three naps because of, presumably, sad-sick fatigue

A week ago I got stung by a wasp of all things on my ankle of all places and it seemed to be healing but no, my skin cannot react normally to anything ever, today it's flared up in a hives-like reaction and I can't go anywhere because wearing socks or shoes or leg coverings of any kind will rub it

I swear everything I wrote in that part of 2022 or whenever it was, when I was trying to force words out daily despite brainfog, was not worth it. Every one I've gone back to is a complete mess needing extensive rewriting. I'm still going to keep going back to fix them because I'm stubborn, but damn

For me with lan wangji the top or bottom part is unimportant but the service part is non-negotiable, like this is a man who gets off on giving wei wuxian pleasure and I won't be persuaded otherwise

It's just that these days there's not the same kind of distinction between the two (if you engage with fandom solely on certain plaforms)

Most of them aren't really part of fandom (in the strict weirdo nerd sense) *now*. They're just people who like the thing, and when they stop seeing the thing around, they move on

Half those people would never have been part of fandom (in the strict weirdo nerd sense) in the first place in the old days, because they never would have gone trawling LJ or webrings or forums or whatever.

I keep seeing tumblr posts about fandoms dying soon after canon ends and How We Must Fix This but can't help feeling like it's more that fandom and the wider culture now happen on the same platforms, making the "death" seem more dramatic.
