The word "ungrading" is an active present participle. It doesn't mean "not grading." Ungrading acknowledges the existence of grades and invites systemic critique, an undoing or thoughtful dismantling. Not best practices, but fluid, contextual practices to push against an insidious culture of grades.

As someone who grew up Appalachian, I eventually conceded that people generally say things the way they think they should be said. I gave up long ago trying to correct my families pronunciations. It is both difficult and fascinating to go home.

Semioticians are difficult to uncover but we exist. Semiotics is a primary aspect of my research lens. It is also a foundational aspect of the Masters in Strategic Leadership program that I developed and direct. I also taught an undergraduate honors research course on semiotics this Fall.

I have students (undergrad & grad) generate chatGPT poetry as an exercise to demonstrate why you cannot use it for creating original written content. We compare and discuss how each of the poems are the same.

Similarly each time I finish a research project—book, paper, presentation—I tell myself, after the peer reviews, edits, print process,that’s good for now. The next day a voice says hey, have you ever considered this (fill in the blank) as a research project? Wouldn’t that be fun? 🤦‍♂️ I fall for it
