That's a quality of life change that I would approve, but I do not believe it solves the problems we would think for the average user because you'll end up with lengthy strings (see attached image) that describes a model or part number that isn't easily identifiable.

True. I suppose, the system would just need to run something like Windows' Get-PhysicalDisk command during installation to determine the MediaType of the system's storage and then suggest the 'correct' drive as necessary.

Without much thought or research mind you, OS developers could potentially code it to sense SSD hardware and prompt, recommend, or default to it for OS installation. But how would you implement this without additional labour/support for some sort of hardware ID database?

It's the curse of "ease of use" or simplicity of computer setup, the average person without going the extra step of verification, assumes that default computer settings will work and are acceptable. To be fair, it does "work," it just may not be the best experience.
