Seatbelt reminder

Every day, seat belts save lives in Colorado. When you wear one, you instantly reduce your chance of injury or death by 50%. Whether you’re a driver or a passenger, seat belts help keep you safe. Consider using seatbelts for your canine companions, too.

The back of a smoke alarm

Although newer smoke alarms have 10 year batteries that are designed to fail when the detection unit fails, older alarms may still have batteries. Today is a great day to replace batteries in older smoke alarms and make sure your smoke alarms aren't more than 10 years old.

The Aztecs believed marigolds' scent leads the dead back from the spirit world for the Day of the Dead, which is tomorrow. We hope the marigolds in our Firewise garden at Station 2 allow our former personnel to come back and see how much we appreciate their leadership in creating our modern agency.

Happy Halloween! Be careful this evening and no matter how nicely they ask, please don't give elk and deer any of your candy.

As you're making final adjustments to Halloween costumes, please add reflective tape or attachments so that the spooky evening can be as safe as possible. Drivers, watch for trick-or-treaters. Candy Hunters, watch for drivers. And everybody should watch for anxious elk.

Follow these simple steps to reduce your risk of falling at home.

EFR, Jefferson County Sheriff's Office & Colorado State Patrol responded to the Evergreen Post Office on 10/20 after a vehicle crashed into it. The driver was transported to a hospital with minor injuries; the building was not damaged. CSP is investigating the crash.

Friday afternoon (10/17) EFR responded to a significant gas leak in Brook Forest after a contractor broke a ½-inch line. The company that owns the pipe responded to repair it, which included clamping it upstream of the break. Remember to contact 811 prior to digging. bit.ly/Colorado811

Tower 182 is a robust firefighting tool, but only when it’s controlled by trained firefighters. Here firefighters learn how to direct the large-volume water nozzle in case a large building is on fire. Pairing training with community needs is one goal of EFR’s Strategic Plan. #Everything4You

Sometimes conditions in a burning building worsen and firefighters have to "bail out." Firefighters in the current Academy practiced quick exits from upper floors last weekend. For training they were connected to a safety rope; in actual emergencies, they probably won't have that tether.
