Bookseller article: Head of Zeus signs deal for Shauna Lawless’ historical fantasy trilogy [Image of the wonderful Shauna Lawless] Head of Zeus, part of Bloomsbury Publishing, is publishing three new novels from historical fantasy author Shauna Lawless.
Editor Greg Rees agreed a deal with Ed Wilson of Johnson & Alcock for world English-language rights in three new titles set in Lawless’ Gael Song universe, a fantasy series set in medieval Ireland. The first of Lawless’ new books, Daughter of the Otherworld, was published in 2025. The second volume, Son of the Serpent, will be published in autumn 2026, with an untitled third volume set for release in autumn 2027.
Lawless said: “The Gael Song publication journey has been an amazing adventure. I’ve felt more and more love for this world as the series has progressed, and I’m so excited that Daughter of the Otherworld has already garnered so much attention. Head of Zeus and Bloomsbury have been incredible to work with, and their enthusiasm for the series has really helped propel it forward. Signing a deal with Playground for a TV adaptation has been another highlight. Wolf Hall and The White Queen are two of my favourite book adaptations, and knowing the same company is interested in Gael Song has been a surreal and delightful experience.” Rees said: “Shauna’s inspired blending of Irish history and mythology is an absolute delight to work on and all of us at Head of Zeus are thrilled to be continuing the Gael Song journey with her.”
Wilson said: “Shauna is one of the brightest stars in the SFF arena, and has built something rare and stunning in the Gael Song. As this second era begins, we’re excited to continue the journey with Greg and with House of Zeus, who have supported her from day one. Shauna makes historical fantasy feel vivid and contemporary.”
Enormous congratulations to our favourite queen of mythology
