In December, I went to Blackness Castle as a bit of book research, so I'm sharing a few photos! My next fantasy project is loosely inspired by the Border Wars, the Reivers, and the Wars of the Rough Wooing (so 1550s to 1650s or so).

2016 was quite a transition year, so I thought I'd look back. Career-wise, life-wise. World politics wise, too, of course. Here's a glimpse of my life 10 years ago. Gotta say, I'm tempted to dye my hair pink again after walking down memory lane.

I'd agree with this! I tend to call it "cosy-adjacent." There are cosy elements, but also has some bite. The older versions were a bit darker, but I softened certain elements this time around. The series as a whole does trend towards hope, I'd say.

Please, never be shy telling an author you loved their books.

I really wanna give Micah Grey a shot to fly--I know there are so many readers out there who will love him as much as I do. He's my favorite character. Micah's been with me since I was 19 & I'm 37 now. This is my heart & soul series.

This series isn't very horror--is that okay?

Shops for the first two if you're able (I would very much appreciate the sales!), but can do an e-arc for the third.

I basically completely rewrote them last year! New versions are quite different while still feeling a lot like the originals, just updated to my current writing style.

Goldilocks by L.R. Lam

Goldilocks by @lrlam.bsky.social focuses on four female astronauts who steal an interstellar spaceship in pursuit of an exoplanet that can sustain a new civilization, as society on a dying Earth becomes increasingly oppressive toward women. Loved the hard sci-fi elements and social commentary.

Still catching up on books I read last year, we have The Tarot Reader of Versailles by my beloved @anyabergmanwriter, a historical fiction with a dash of magic set during the French Revolution, and Most Ardently, a trans retelling of P&P by @thegabecole.

Me too, but I'm also liking it. Nice to just take the time it takes at a pace that's steady but comfortable.

Same, none of my deadlines are currently hard, and it's a heady feeling! Happy 2026!

What are your goals for the year?

Here's a snippet of my corkboard in my office with my tentative 2026 goals! A few things are up in the air, hence the question marks. At the bottom of the corkboard are my mantras:

- Have fun
- It's okay to say no
- Give fewer f*cks
- Average is not failure
- Failure is temporary (as is success)
