I might publish this model somewhere once I've verified the dimensions but it isn't great for 3D printing unless you really love support material. Plan is to make something that prints in a few pieces with minimal supports and then glues/screws together, which I definitely do plan to publish.

I set out to just make a rough dimensional model of the original famicom eject mechanism so I could proceed to redesign it to fit over those boards with sockets, and well... I guess I accidentally fully cloned it lol

So a floorboard screw went right into the main gas pipe. Last person to lay that board back down was ironically probably a gas engineer a few years ago. It's only gotten bad in the last few days but we've been walking on that the whole time. Who knows how long we've been breathing trace amounts...

It's coming and going, a lot fainter today than it was yesterday and seems to accumulate in pockets inconsistently. I went out and shut the door of the room where it was strongest yesterday, and today there was nothing at all in there, but still hints of it when we walked in the front door.

Falling into the trap of "why not make my own" again, this time with famicom flash carts. I know if I try that it'll either take forever and cost twice as much as an everdrive anyway, or it'll never get finished and be a total waste of time and money.

My famicom has sat in a box in pieces for like 3 years waiting for a custom power/AV board I never finished, so rather than doing that now and still having crappy video I just ordered a replacement main board that does everything. I already have the CPU/PPU/shell so it's gonna be a pretty cheap mod.

Probably won't be getting one myself on release but once some teardown photos show up then I'll maybe get a bit excited. Unless it costs like 10x what that kind of hardware should cost these days.

I'm betting the Casio SX-C1/SXC-1 will be based around an off-the-shelf modern microcontroller of some kind, and that will probably lead to some interesting mods. I had hoped it would be an RP2040/RP2350 but just saw it has 2 USB ports so that's unlikely.

Followup analysis of the fix: a1.0.6 "fixes" it by changing the chunk hash from 10 bits to 32 bits, with no change to rendering code. Hash collisions still exist but now at chunk coords at multiples of 65536, so you'd have to go more than a million blocks out to encounter the bug.

This issue seems to have been introduced in Infdev 20100625-1917 when mob spawners were first added, and was apparently fixed in Alpha 1.0.6.

In summary, in chunks with coords at a multiple of 32 (except true 0, 0) and adjacent chunks, entities including the player freeze if the player is within 64 blocks of a mob spawner. The simplest solution is to delete spawners near the affected coordinates with a suitable old MCEdit version.

Entities need all chunks within 16 blocks to exist (in the cache) before they are tick updated. This makes an effective 3x3 chunk area where entities get stuck, including the player. Joining a world while inside this area has a high chance to temporarily delete the player, for unknown reasons.

Being in render range (64 block sphere) of a spawner renders a fake entity inside with coords set to 0, 0, 0. It tries to get the light level from there, forcing chunk 0, 0 to load. Other chunks with coords at a multiple of 32 share the same hash so are removed from the cache and possibly unloaded.

A friend showed me a weird bug in old Minecraft versions where the player (and other entities) just gets stuck in certain areas. I did a whole load of code-digging and determined it's an issue with mob spawner rendering and chunk caching...
