Last time I worked that shift it ruined my life and made me dangerously depressed, dysphoric, and unhealthy. Then, there was a promise of eventual escape. Now, I’m just there forever unless I quit. But I have nowhere to go.

My job just fucked me over so hard, they switched my schedule permanently to the worst possible shift for me. I know I shouldn’t be surprised, but I’d already “paid my dues” or whatever. I thought I was free. I’m not even the most junior anymore.

My theory is people are hard of hearing. I don’t do this in public, but when I’m alone, I put the phone on speaker and put that up to my ear so I can hear the person more clearly.

So much about contempt for the youth is a vicious cycle of forgetting what it was like to ever be young and/or not knowing any young people you aren't in some position of authority over.

I really hate that so many books are written like shopping lists of tropes in order to encourage this style of discourse

In addition, I think it’s important to recognize that there are plenty of people who are total freaks in power right now that are incredibly unlikable on camera or off.

As someone who works in local news, and regularly conducts man-on-street interviews, there are normal people who are naturally comfortable talking on camera, but you wouldn’t expect it because they also don’t chase the camera down every opportunity. It’s just a thing some people have.

We need to either find a way to disassociate the word “distributed” from top-down authoritarian control, or we need to find another word. For casual discourse.
