02.12.2025 23:38 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0So many cozies to read. It's not easy deciding. How can anyone decide? There's just something warm and fuzzy about them.
02.12.2025 23:30 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Just checked it out. I didn't know B&N had its own press! I prefer reading books in order so I'm ordering the first book. And it's in New Jersey!
02.12.2025 23:22 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It's good to get a few opinions, rather than listen to just one person. I mostly see cozy mysteries with cartoonish covers like yours, and it fits. These are fun, relaxing stories, the kind you read when you need a break from all the stress of the day.
02.12.2025 23:14 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Ever hit POST on a blog or article you're proud of, only for someone to point out a typo?
Are you worried multiple typos will pop up in your novelβafter it's been published?
I scour your writing to catch and trash those little buggers so your writing looks clean and professional.
One great way to tell readers you've written a novel?
Talk about your journey. Talk about the struggles. Let others know who you are.
Don't just pop up an ad for your novel.
What do you do to market your new novel?
Also, Ollie and Jack enjoyed their Thanksgiving dinner.

I feel the struggle. My imposter syndrome shows up when I don't get comments on my blogs or when other copyeditors who are ahead of me have dry spells in their work.
28.11.2025 17:50 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I haven't written any books. I'm a proofreader and copyeditor. I started beta reading myself. I love reading mysteries and if I ever do start a novel it will have to be a mystery.
28.11.2025 17:48 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Clarity is vital. I can't tell you how often I've had to reread paragraphs because of unnecessary descriptions or dialogues. No, I don't need to know what everyone is wearing or the minutia of their daily lives. A book that bores me is a book I'm closing and not giving a positive review.
28.11.2025 17:20 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Ah, the imposter syndrome can hit hard at times. First drafts are always complete messes. Even best-selling authors have messy first drafts. But don't give up. You'll get there.
28.11.2025 17:14 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Self-editing before you hire a copyeditor can save you a bit of money. The messier a manuscript, the more time and effort your copyeditor will have to spend on it. But why do you need a copyeditor if you already self-edited? Because you will overlook errors as you're too close to your own writing.

Be a bit suspicious of any unsolicited email. Is this someone claiming to be well-known writer? Well, no it's not; don't be fooled. Is it generic? Yeah, someone's phishing, hoping they can scam you. If you're not sure, don't click on any link. Look them up. And go with your gut.
28.11.2025 17:04 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Sounds like a lovely morning. I keep saying I need to get back to cross stitching and even learn how to crochet better. I know the basics, but that's it. I'm spending my day posting and commenting, starting to create my first newsletter, and taking walks with my husband. And reading, of course.
28.11.2025 16:49 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Why did I pivot from teaching special education to copyediting and proofreading?
No grammar, punctuation, or writing lessons for today's blog post.

βπ» Seeking a copyeditor who will respect your preferences and not erase your author voice or writing style?
π Seeking a proofreader who will strive to make your novel as error-free as humanly possible?
I'm extending my discount offer until December 31.
This is for both fiction and nonfiction.
Your agenda is impressive. I'm not conscious at 6 a.m. My agenda for today is to meet a potential client (done), write a post (done), write some comments and DMs, attend a marketing meeting and a clarity meeting, continue an EFA course, start writing my next blog post, and do some organizing.
17.11.2025 16:41 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0You write while walking on a treadmill? That's awesome! If I tried that, I'd get dizzy and fall. I should get myself a standing desk, though.
17.11.2025 16:31 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yes! Find editors who read and love the genre you're writing in. I love offering free samples. It hasn't gotten me work yet, but it has gotten me testimonials.
I have cut my samples down from 2,000 to 1,000 words because I realized that's enough to tell me if I'm right for the job.
You earned it! My reward for getting work done will be to spend time relaxing with a jigsaw puzzle.
13.11.2025 20:05 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I've turned down work that I'm not right for and that isn't right for me. I love that I can pick who to work with, what I want to learn, and what times of the day to work. Yeah, it's taking me longer than I want to get work. But I'm not stressed out the way I was working for someone else.

I love your keyboard! And your cat is also adorable. Cats make great editing partners. They'll provide their wise thoughts by walking across your keyboard.
13.11.2025 19:55 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Jigsaw and word puzzles make me happy. Do you have any independent bookstores near you? For us, a bookstore trip means hitting the local Barnes & Nobel. Getting outside is a terrific way to shake the cobwebs.
13.11.2025 19:52 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0One difference between copyediting and proofreading: Copyediting always comes before proofreading. βοΈ β‘οΈ π
My video explains why.
If you pay for proofreading before your novel's been copyedited, you're wasting your money.
Ah, so she keeps him in check.

12.11.2025 01:00 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Ah! I put "you're" for "your." Fixing it now.
12.11.2025 00:58 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0In my latest blog, I discuss types of repetition and redundancies in writing and ways to fix them.

Perfection doesn't exist in novels, because all novels have a few errors in them. But you should always aim to get your novel to be its best. Just don't keep yourself from moving forward out of fear of it not being perfect.
